BEYONDER is a Norwegian energy tech company that has developed the next generation of sustainable Li-ion capacitors and supercapacitors for the heavy-duty industry sector.

Beyonder has developed a patented highly transformative and sustainable “activated carbon production technology” to be used commercially in producing the next generation of supercapacitors and Li-ion capacitors. These products are designed to solve crucial customer problems within selected industries such as: Renewable energy grids, transportation, and offshore energy infrastructure.

Job Purpose

The electrochemical test engineer is accountable for the electrochemical test of raw material, electrode, and pouch cell at Beyonder AS. The position exists to develop the testing procedures, evaluate testing related safety issues, analyzer the testing results.

Position will also assist in specification updates and modification, machine setup, preventive maintenance, trouble shooting, and overall testing support.

Main tasks

  • Planning:

  • Project and development planning
  • Assist in the definition of new project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility
  • Be involved in technical strategic planning to meet company’s goals
  • Project management:

  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of projects
  • Develop detailed project plan to monitor and track progress
  • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule and project costs using appropriate verification techniques
  • Create and maintain project documentation
  • Implement operational best practices
  • Operation:

  • Conduct electrochemical testing, such as cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and galvanostatic charge discharge, to evaluate both material and cells in terms of capacity, stability, rate capability, internal resistance, etc;
  • Development and optimize electrochemical testing procedure and protocol; Troubleshoot and resolve issues with testing equipment;
  • Present data in a cohesive and competent fashion to cross-functional teams; Interpretation of the data to provide fundamental understanding of electrochemical reaction mechanisms and trying them to the structural properties of the materials involved.
  • Write detailed electrochemical testing report; Work together with electrode development engineer and cell design engineer to provide suggestions for formulation and process optimization;
  • Train and educate junior employee; Other related work required from Beyonder.

Education and experience

  • Education:

  • Master in the field of chemistry, electrochemistry, materials, chemical engineering or related.
  • Experience:

  • 3+ years in electrode and cell testing. Good electrochemical background. Hand-on experience on battery testing equipment. A good understanding of lithium-ion battery safety and dangers.
  • Computer Knowledge:

  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office and suitable diagnostics software.
  • Languages:

  • Good communication oral and writing skills. Working language is English.
  • Preferably (willingness to learn) Norwegian for collaboration.
  • Other:

  • The position is subject to the company's current HSE and ethical guidelines.
